Honestly if you are fasinated by ships this game is one of the best simulators out there, I always just go on free roam to sink myself.. I was hesitating at the beginning whether to buy this simulator due to many bug reports. I can say the game runns reliably and smoothly with my hardware (GTX650, i7 4770, windows 8.1). I believe it fully deserves the name SIMULATION as it represents the behaviour of the ships authentically (accelleration, turning, propellor sideslip when docking,...) as well as the motion of the ships on heavy seas. As a long time hobby yachtie and a big enthusiast for everything that moves on the sea I really enjoy experimenting with docking manouvres or just enjoy the athmosphere it offers when just walking on the ship while under way. I consider this simulation almost perfect even for professional educational use. What would make it perfect for me- the windage effect on the ship is missing- the wind can be adjusted in the simulator but there is no force exerted on the ship superstructure...no ship movement due to wind forces. Radar is simplified but functional. Therefore I give it 9 out of 10 points ;) Big compliments to the creators and the community which developed such a remarkable simulation.. Great game, i love it. my only complaint is i wish that there was light in the cabin at night, but that wont stop me from playing the game.. This piece of ship tries its hardest to avoid working, but once you get it to function out of sheer force and luck you find there really is nothing to do but watch the pretty water.. first pc game i ever bought. Wait, I own this game?...wait, I played this game?What's this chapter of my life that I seem to have lost?. I haven't played this for a while, but I do love ships, and this sim lets me play around with ships large and small. It isn't a game as such, there are scenarios which give a variety of tasks to complete - not all of them terribly easy. Some of the physics can go awry - towing the bulk gas tanker is one where having tugged too hard to get the big devil moving, I couldn't find the brakes (!), and it ended up pulling my tug backwards. There is a lot in here to enjoy, though, if you have that kind of interest in things to do with ships - they don't behave like cars, or aeroplanes - everything goes quite slowly until that crucial monent when a turn or change of rudder or throttle has to be timed to the split second or there will be a bit of a disaster! I find the level of immersion to be deep and most enjoyable - but I think it requires some research and quite a bit of understanding. Parking the P and O cross channel ferry in Dover is an example - reverse parking is not everyone's forte. It is possible. but even skippers with several years sea experience can find it unnerving. If you don't want to have to persevere and reach an understanding of the physics and hydro dynamics maybe you won't enjoy this sim - but for me, it is by far the best out there at the moment. I'd love to see a warship game with graphics and physics as good as this has.. This game gets undeserved criticism, simply because it is a ship simulator.Don't let that deter you from playing this game. If you have the smallest hunger for an awesome nautical experience on PC, I highly recommend this game.I enjoy all the missions because I get to try my hand at piloting all kinds of ships in varying difficulties and conditions.When I'm not playing missions, I hop onto the servers and take to the seas with other players, form fleets, make channel crossings together etcAnd sometimes I'll go into freeroam mode under horrible weather conditions, aka middle of the night on the Atlantic Ocean with extremely low visibility from fog and hurricane force winds, and have to use just my radar and instruments to track down the other AI ships that are also weathering the same storm as me.This game is a ton of fun. Buy it, play it, enjoy it, and friend me if you want to take to the water together!
